Rhode Island book

IMG_4271Since Rhode Island Independence Day is May 4, we decided it was the perfect theme for this week.  We learned lots of new things, like the state flower (violet), the state beverage (coffee), that the first circus in the United States was held there in 1774, and lots of other neat facts that are included in the book.  We also have a few of our students taking in some of the sights on the front cover and the “the end” page, so check it out!

We Love Star Wars book

We Love Star Wars book

IMG_3923IMG_3452In a galaxy far, far away…students were learning all about Star Wars!  We had a great time this week with our theme on Star Wars.  This year we’re talking about the first Star Wars movies that were made, so our book features some of the main characters from those movies, such as R2-D2, Lando, and Yoda.  Of course, we feature our awesome students dressed up as these characters.  We had lots of help with costumes from a former teacher, Lois, and also had many donations of costumes from Ms. Kim, and Gena (Joy’s sister-in-law).  And of course our own art teacher, Ms. Judy, along with some of her art students, created not one but TWO amazing backgrounds for us to use.  This is a book you can’t miss!

IMG_3164IMG_2910Since it’s national poetry month, we decided to do a unit on Mother Goose nursery rhymes.  We had SO MUCH fun making this book!  Some of our amazing students were our models and got to dress up as some of the characters who appear in Mother Goose rhymes, like Jack & Jill, Old King Cole, and Humpty Dumpty, to name a few.  Thank you Ms. Lois for helping us with costumes!

Our characters are super cute, so check it out!

How We Make Money book

How We Make Money book

IMG_1702We are putting our spin on the Unique theme this month by talking about how we can make money in order to be able to buy things.  We had a “dress-up-as-what-you-want-to-be-when-you-grow-up” day at school recently and got to take pictures of students and staff.  We photoshopped the pictures onto backgrounds that went with the jobs.  We had beekeepers, a marine biologist, and a pediatrician, among other jobs.

You’ll just have to read it to find out what other jobs we looked at!

At the Hoedown book

At the Hoedown book

IMG_0829At our school,  the whole school participates in a hoedown every year.  We decided that it might be fun to have our theme for this week be about a hoedown.  Our book talks about what a hoedown is and then goes into what our hoedown was like this year.  Our students were really excited to see pictures of themselves and our verbal students were able to talk a little bit about the hoedown and what they remembered.  Take a look to see the fun we had!

March Madness book

March Madness book

IMG_9951March Madness is in full effect right now, we decided to go ahead and do a theme about it since we haven’t ever really touched on this topic before.  We learned some pretty neat things about March Madness, such as who the winningest team is and also which team has had the most NCAA tournament championship wins.  Since we’ve been trying to get pictures of our students in each of our books, we feature our own basketball team on the front cover of this book and added in a picture of another student on the back cover.  We hope you enjoy!

We have 2 of our students featured on the front and the back of the book taking in some of the Nevada scenery.  You’ll have to check it out!

IMG_7794It’s all about COLOR this week!  Our book covers several different colors and talks about objects that are each color.  To make it special, we added some of our students interacting with or wearing the different colors that we talk about.

We found that the whole world is full of color!
