January After Party

Welcome to the After Party! Each week after the weekly blog featuring activities in the elementary department is posted, our sensory cart is parked in the media center where it is available for check out by the rest of the school.

 

 

 

Our first week we looked back at the 1920’s!

 

 

 

 

The students sorted pompoms in stoplight colors—-

the traffic light was invented in the 1920’s!

 

 

 

Charles Lindbergh flew across the Atlantic Ocean.

A vibrating massager gave the feeling of riding in one of those old planes.

 

 

 

We had a box with lots of “flapper beads” and a voice output device with jazz music.

Another box was filled with dollar sign pasta and coins to represent the stock market crash of 1929.

 

 

 

The students made baseballs in shaving foam, representing the “national pastime” of the 1920’s.

The numbers 1 9 2 0 were found in rice.

 

 

 

Our water play featured a little tugboat and a Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse toy—-Mickey Mouse made his first appearance in the 1920’s!

 

 

 

 

 

 

For National Hobby Month, we learned about different staff members hobbies.

Ms. Trenisha collects elephants!

We put lots of elephants in her box!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Brenda loves to cook.

Chocolate scented cloud dough was a hit!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Noah and Ms. Betsy like to garden.

There were different types of play food vegetables to plant in this box.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Laurie likes to cross stitch.

The students made X’s in purple Bubber to represent her stitches.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Thea likes to go fishing.

 

 

 

There were lots of fish to catch in our little pond.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Kim likes to read.

Fun letter magnets, found in beans,spelled out animal words.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Strawberry guava was chosen as our scent this week.

The students loved the fruity scent.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Let’s Go On An Adventure was a unit filled with lots of fun.

Our outer space umbrella was a hit!

 

 

 

There were colorful dinosaurs in a box of blue bean “dinosaur eggs.

Fun and very eye catching.

 

 

 

 

There were colorful coins to find in black kinetic sand.

There was also a fun pirate figure.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Circus clowns filled this box.

The sawdust base was animal bedding.

 

 

 

 

 

The safari box had lots of animals………

………and some fun binoculars.

 

 

 

 

 

Superman flew through fluffy shaving cream clouds.

The students always enjoy messy play.

 

 

 

 

 

The mermaid lagoon had mermaids, fish to catch, and….

….a shipwreck!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We chose ocean for the scent of the week.

It was a hit!

 

 

 

We finished the month by learning about Famous French People (January 30 was National Croissant Day).

The students made castles out of sand and blocks in this box dedicated to Joan of Arc.

 

 

 

We also included some toy knights.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Marquis de Lafayette helped us win the American revolution.

Patriotic pasta was sorted for his box.

 

 

 

 

There were both upper and lower case N’s to find in Napoleons box.

The red, white, and blue pasta represented the colors of the French flag.

 

 

 

 

 

Our discovery bottles were filled with interesting things to look at.

They reminded us of science experiments—-like Madame Curie’s!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Coco Chanel box was a huge hit with the students!

They always love the opportunity to dress up 🙂

 

 

 

 

 

Yellow oobleck with gold glitter represented King Louis the fourteenth.

The glitter made it especially eye catching.

 

 

 

 

 

Lots of fish filled our water play basin.

Jacques Cousteau was represented here.
