We love how teachers take our ideas to the next level and share them with us. On Tuesday morning we start in Ms Joi’s classroom with our first Sensory Group of the week——- and with both Joi and Joy its truly a joyful time 🙂   It seems like every week, Ms. Joi and her staff (Michelle and Frankie) have been trying out all sorts of concoctions and are enthusiastically sharing their experiences and ideas with us.  We especially love their ideas for sensory bottles—- a whole collection filled with all sorts of materials from corn syrup to hair gel mixed with glitter, beads and sequins.  These ladies are awesome!
We asked Ms. Joi to share her thoughts about the group and this is what she had to say:
“I love the weekly sensory groups and the wonderful ideas we share. I would have never thought to involve occupational therapy and speech therapy together. All of the students benefit from the activities, including those that do not have the services added to their IEPs. As a teacher, I am given a chance to identify the likes and dislikes of my students. At times I feel like a student myself. Since becoming a member the the “OccuSpeech” group I have joined a social media site to assist in developing activities and self made sensory items for my  classroom. Thus far, this has been the greatest experience of my teaching career. Thank you Dynamic Duo (Ms. Joy and Ms. Cara) for allowing my class to become a part of such an awesome learning.experience.
By the way, keep up the good work! I look forward to next year’s meetings and getting dirty.”
