Welcome to the After Party! Each week after the weekly blog featuring activities in the elementary department is posted, our sensory cart is parked in the media center where it is available for check out by the rest of the school.
December started with a unit on Gift Bringers Around the World.
Our box dedicated to Santa was very popular.
The students totally rocked the hat 🙂
Sinter Klaus from The Netherlands leaves coins and candy in children’s shoes.
There were 5 shiny coins to find in our chocolate cloud dough.
Pere Noel from France rides a donkey.
The students had fun “feeding” the donkeys carrots.
The 3 Kings are the gift bringers in Spain.
Rice in the colors of the Spanish flag had numerals 1-3. There was also a picture of the 3 kings at the bottom of the box.
La Banana puts candy into children’s socks.
Colorful pasta represented candy.
The German Christkindl is always represented with long golden hair and wings.
Our box of golden garland was a hit with the students.
In the water play, the letter C could be scooped up with red and green measuring cups.
A great way to practice scooping skills.
Sugarplum swirl lotion was the perfect scent to go with the week.
December finished with a unit all about our favorite sensory items—-Oh What Fun We Had.
We don’t use slime very often but it is always a hit with the students.
The letters F U N could be found as the slime was pulled apart.
Kinetic sand is another one of our favorites.
Since the new year is 2020, we put number cookie cutters in this box.
Beads are always a hit with the students.
This box contained lots of colorful ones.
We have lots of different colored rice but this watermelon colored rice is especially eye catching!
As usual, there was a picture to find at the bottom of the box.
Beans are another popular item.
We especially like the tactile feel of these lentils.
Jello was sprinkled on top of shaving cream….
….to make our new favorite messy play item!
There were spoons and measuring cups in the water play.
This made for lots of scooping fun.
Winter candy apple from Bath and Body Works made a perfect scent for this unit.
The students loved its sweet aroma.
